How to Repair a
PTO Shaft on a King Kutter
The King Kutter is an industrial-size finishing deck mower meant for commercial landscaping. It's typically used for mowing large fields, golf courses or highway medians. The King Kutter is a tow-behind (or implement) finishing mower that attaches to the back of a tractor via a power takeoff (PTO) linkup. The PTO shaft on the King Cutter is a rod that engages the cutting blades beneath the mower deck. If it gets bent or damaged, it must be removed and replaced with a new one
1. Separate the tractor PTO from the end PTO connector on the King Kutter. Do this by pulling out the locking pin with pliers and pulling the two PTOs apart.
2. Pull the tractor away from the King Kutter deck so you have room to work.
3. Use a pipe wrench to remove the end cap of the PTO shaft casing on the PTO end that attaches to the pulling tractor.
4. Use a socket set to remove the retaining bolts holding the PTO end in place under the cutting deck, where it engages the blade clutch.
5. Slide the old PTO shaft from the shaft casing and slip the new one in. Tighten the retaining bolts holding the end of the PTO connected to the blade clutch.
6. Replace the end cap on the PTO tow-connection end with the pipe wrench.
7.Back the tractor up and connect it's
PTO Shaft link to the King Kutter's PTO link and slip the locking pin in place.
